The Belgian prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into the discovery by customs of goods that may violate EU sanctions against Russia, reported from the Belgian customs service.

Since February 2022, the customs has blocked 500 containers of products for export to the Russian Federation on suspicion of violating EU sanctions.

To unlock containers, interested companies must provide documents confirming that they do not violate the sanctions, the article says.

The detained containers may contain luxury goods, medical equipment, electronics, food, as well as products that can be used for military purposes. In total, the customs service identified 30 violation cases of export sanctions.

In August, it became known that the Belgian authorities had frozen the assets of Russian individuals and legal entities totalling 50.5 billion euros since February 24.
