Belgium to transfer €1.7B tax earnings from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine

Belgium will transfer to Ukraine only 1.7 billion euros, received from taxes on income from the reinvestment of frozen Russian assets, Prime Minister of the Belgian Kingdom Alexander De Croo said at a press conference following a meeting in Brussels with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyy, reported from TASS.

"There are frozen funds from Russia, and there is income from these [reinvestment] funds. But both the first and second are the competence of the European Union... Taxes on income from frozen assets in 2024 will amount to about 1.7 billion euros, they will not go to our treasury, but will be directly transferred to Ukraine," he added.

1.7 billion euros is slightly more than the amount that the European Union sends to Kyiv monthly to help the country’s budget.
