According to the Hurriyet newspaper, Erdogan has repeatedly indicated that in the current situation, he will not call Biden himself, but is ready to discuss existing issues with him if Biden calls him. Erdogan’s position is also connected with Ankara’s criticism of Washington over what is happening in the Gaza Strip.
If Biden calls Erdogan in the next few days, the two presidents will discuss the Middle East, a permanent ceasefire and the status of Gaza after the end of hostilities. In addition, the presidents may discuss the sale of F-16 aircraft to Türkiye, as well as Sweden's entry into NATO.
The newspaper notes that Türkiye is, in principle, not against Sweden’s NATO accession, but Ankara is waiting for positive steps from the US Congress on the issue of approving the F-16 deal. If this issue is agreed upon by American legislators, then the Turkish parliament will most likely approve Stockholm's application.
