US special envoy for energy visits President Aliyev in Baku

Amos Hochstein, the US secretary of state’s special envoy for energy affairs, has visited President Ilham Aliyev in Baku.

Hochstein and Aliyev discussed Azerbaijani-US relations and "expressed satisfaction” with the state of affairs in energy cooperation, the state news agency Azartac said without giving any details.

The visit came as the senior US diplomat stepped up lobbying efforts in Greece for the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) that is to export Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe from 2020.

Greece expressed support for another pipeline proposed by Russia’s Gazprom.
