Borrell promises to compensate third countries for damages from sanctions imposed on Russia

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has promised to compensate third countries for damages from sanctions imposed on Russia, reported from foreign media.

The head of the EU diplomacy stressed that these sanctions are not aimed at the economy of other countries.

Sanctions against Russia are aimed at weakening the potential of Russia’s financing of military operations. They are not aimed at the economy of third countries. If there is any collateral damage, the EU will compensate for it, he said during a briefing in Kazakhstan.

He didn’t specify how this will be done.

During his visit to Astana, Borrell met with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the parties discussed bilateral cooperation and investment.
