24.06.2024 10:30
The European Union has developed a mechanism that will allow it to circumvent Hungary's veto on purchasing weapons for Kyiv using revenues from frozen Russian assets, according to Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).

According to the information , Borrell stated that Budapest, which previously rejected the proposal to use Russian assets, should not participate in the decision-making process about [their] use. He emphasized that the mechanism to bypass the veto will be "complex, like any legal solution, but workable."

The EU's foreign ministers are set to discuss this scheme during their meeting on June 24.
