BP Azerbaijan To Take Shah Deniz Platform Offline In 2017

BP Azerbaijan intends to take the Shah Deniz platform offline in 2017 owing to technical-preventive, repair and adjustment work at the Sangachal terminal, Trend News Agency reported.


The company proposed to carry out repair and adjustment work next year on a section of the Sangachal terminal, the existing installations and connection of new installations under the phase 2 of the Shah Deniz field's development. The terminal receives products from the field.BP Azerbaijan communications, external affairs, strategy & region vice president Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli said: "The period of the suspension will be determined later. We try to conduct preventive measures at all our facilities once in two years."According to the company, the planned work would affect the terminal's part that is linked with the South Caucasus pipeline. This would result in the suspension of gas export to Georgia and Turkey.The contract for the development project at the Shah Deniz offshore field, which is operated by BP, was signed on 4 June 1996. The field is estimated to hold 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves.
