Brent oil rises to $83.97

Oil prices rose on Wednesday morning after growing the day before on expectations that China would ease anti-COVID restrictions, reported from Interfax.

The price of January futures for Brent, the sales of which ends on Wednesday, on the London ICE Futures Exchange amounted to $83.97 per barrel, which is $0.94 (1.13%) higher than the price at the end of the previous session. The more actively traded February futures rose $0.93 (1.1%) to $85.18 a barrel. On Tuesday, February contracts rose $0.36 (0.4%) to $84.25 per barrel.

The price of futures for WTI oil for January on the electronic trading of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) amounted to $79.09 per barrel by this time, which is $0.89 (1.14%) higher than the final value of the previous session. The day before, the contract rose in price by $0.96 (1.2%) to $78.2 per barrel.

The Chinese authorities earlier announced plans to actively vaccinate the elderly population against coronavirus, reducing the time between vaccinations for people over 80 years old to three months.

Market attention is also directed to the OPEC + meeting, which will be held on December 4. Eurasia Group analysts believe that the alliance may decide to reduce production quotas amid prospects for weakening demand in China.

Meanwhile, data from the American Petroleum Institute (API) indicated a drop in US oil inventories last week by 7.85 million barrels instead of the 2.5 million barrels expected by analysts.

Official data from the US Department of Energy on reserves will be released later in the evening.
