A British man has bled to death in Thailand after apparently kicking a mirror in anger after a row with a woman.
Iain Mackay, 40, from Stornoway, died at Hua Hin hospital in Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan Province last week.
He was on holiday when he is thought to have been wounded by a smashed mirror in a shop.
According to police, the 40-year-old, from Stornoway in Scotland, died on Friday but the exact circumstances of his death are still under investigation.
Friends of Mr Mackay, who worked for a seismic research company, claim the seaman had clashed with a girl and another man at a bar.
In an interview, Hua Hin police claimed that Mackay had become angry when had gone to meet his girlfriend at a shop and found she was not there. He had then kicked a mirror on a wall, and was cut by the broken shards.
According to the police report, Mackay began bleeding after the mirror was smashed and he was taken to Hua Hin hospital, where he later died.
A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Hua Hin, Thailand, on 3 April. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this sad time.”
