BTC transports some 10 million tonnes of Azerbaijani oil in Jan.-April

About 9.77 million tonnes of Azerbaijani oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in Jan.-April, 2014 compared to 10.24 million tonnes in Jan.-April, 2013, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) said on May 9.

The BTC pipeline transported some 29.67 million tonnes of Azerbaijani oil in 2012, compared to over 32.2 million tonnes in 2011.

In total, some 215.22 million tonnes of oil was transported via the pipeline as of May 1, 2014 since the beginning of its operation.

Nearly 9.67 million tonnes of oil was supplied from the Turkish Ceyhan port to world markets in Jan.-April, compared to 10.08 million tonnes in Jan.-April, 2013. Around 213.33 million tonnes of Azerbaijani oil was supplied to world markets from the port of Ceyhan as of May 1, 2013 since the beginning of BTC's operation.

Some 29.3 million tonnes of oil was supplied to world markets from the Turkish port of Ceyhan in 2012, compared to over 32.08 million tonnes in 2011.

The total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer long section running through Azerbaijan, a 249 kilometer long section in Georgia and a 1,076 kilometer long section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

The shareholders of BTC are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (five percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhilips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
