Bus passes are finally on sale in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku.

One travel card is offered for 3 manat ($3.8), Namiq Hasanov, a spokesman for the Transportation Ministry, told Trend news agency.

Of the total, 2 manat is an “insurance deposit” while 1 manat is loaded to the card as transit fare.

One trip on a Baku bus costs 0.2 manat irrespective of the distance.

The ministry has ordered almost 1 million cards, 450,000 of which have already been delivered to the city, Hasanov said.

Hasanov said 250 buses travelling along 36 routes will shift to the new system by the end of next month.

The pre-paid cards have been issued by the Bank of Azerbaijan on the basis of MasterCard, he said.
