The Napoleonic Wars were still ongoing and the first national map of the UK was published.

The year was 1815 and experts believe it was the year this "monster" was born.

Stunned researchers encountered a rare giant Chinese salamander living in a cave.

The 4ft 7in long creature was discovered in the Chongqing district of southwest China by a fisherman.

Wang Yong discovered the amphibian by chance after stepping on "something soft and slimy”.

Wildlife officials were called to the cave, who moved it to a nature preserve after determining it was ill.
