The professionalism of the crew members was critical in saving the lives of 29 passengers, AZAL President Samir Rzayev told journalists.

"Unfortunately, two of our experienced pilots and one guide lost their lives in the accident. Their heroism will never be forgotten. While this tragic accident brought a significant loss to our nation, the crew's valiant dedication to their duties until the last moment and their prioritization of human life have immortalized their names in history," Rzayev stated.

He acknowledged that this accident has become a significant tragedy in AZAL's history: "Investigations into the causes of the incident are ongoing, and the public will be updated accordingly. The black box has been recovered, and its analysis is being conducted in line with international aviation standards.”

The president of AZAL highlighted that the aircraft had undergone a complete overhaul in October, successfully passed a technical inspection, and was operated by experienced pilots with over 15,000 flight hours. He stated, "Despite these measures, the causes of the incident are still under investigation.”

Rzayev also provided details on the repatriation process: "The survivors will be brought back to the country later today. The bodies of those who lost their lives will be returned within two days. May God have mercy on those who died, and we wish a speedy recovery to the survivors.”

On December 25, an AZAL passenger aircraft on a Baku-Grozny flight crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. Among the 67 people on board, 42 were Azerbaijani citizens, 16 were Russian, 6 were Kazakh, and 3 were Kyrgyz. Tragically, 38 individuals lost their lives, while 29 survived.

In response to the numerous casualties, President Ilham Aliyev declared a day of mourning in the country. Additionally, a State Commission, led by Prime Minister Ali Asadov, was established by order of the head of state to investigate the causes of the plane crash.
