Brother of Azerbaijani economist Ibadoghlu placed under police supervision

Azerbaijan has placed Galib Toghrul, the brother of prominent economist Gubad Ibadoghlu, under police supervision as part of a widening criminal investigation into the activities of non-governmental organizations, local media reported on Friday.
Toghrul, head of the Center for Economic Research, was formally charged and subjected to a restraining measure by the General Prosecutor’s Office, according to haqqin.az.
The investigation has also led to the detention of another NGO representative, Ahmed Mamedzade, while a court is expected to rule on the case of Aytaj Agazade later on Friday.
Several individuals have been implicated in the probe, which is being conducted under multiple articles of the Criminal Code, including 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship), 213.1 (tax evasion), and 308.2 (abuse of official powers).
Gubad Ibadoghlu, an opposition-linked economist and former political detainee, was released from house arrest earlier this year.
