Mother rejects suicide claim in Elgun Ibrahimov death probe

Mother rejects suicide claim in Elgun Ibrahimov death probe

The mother of Elgun Ibrahimov, a 17-year-old boy allegedly beaten to death in Ganja, says her son did not commit suicide and that prosecutors are seriously investigating the circumstances of his death.

Fizzah Zeynalova told Teleqraf that forensic results are still pending and that she is satisfied with the way the investigation is being handled. She rejected claims circulating on social media that her son took his own life.

“The reports that my son could have committed suicide are baseless. The day before the incident, he was preparing for his graduation ceremony and planned to attend a dance. If anything was troubling him, he would have told me. You’ve seen the footage – he was beaten to death,” she said.

Ibrahimov was found in critical condition in front of a disused dormitory of the Azerbaijan University of Technology. A security guard at a nearby vocational school heard his cries and alerted the authorities. He was taken to the hospital but died the following day.

A criminal case has been opened by the Ganja City Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
