Six Azerbaijani universities enter global TOP 1000 for the first time

For the first time in its history, six universities from Azerbaijan have entered the QS World University Rankings 2026 Top 1000 list.
According to the Ministry of Science and Education, cited by Report, the total number of Azerbaijani universities featured in the ranking has risen to nine, with three improving their positions significantly compared to the previous year.
Baku State University advanced by nearly 300 spots to rank 688th. Azerbaijan State University of Economics (801–850) and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (851–900) also climbed notably.
Joining the global top 1000 for the first time are Azerbaijan Technical University (851–900), Baku Engineering University (901–950), and Khazar University (951–1000).
Additionally, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Sumgayit State University (both 1001–1200), and ADA University (1201–1400) were included in the ranking for the first time.
Azerbaijan ranks second among 106 countries in terms of the number of newly listed universities. It is now the South Caucasus regional leader in the QS ranking — with three times more universities in the list than the total number from its neighbors.
