Father arrested in Aghdam for severely beating two young children

 Two toddlers were brutally beaten by their parents in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district and taken to the intensive care unit of the central hospital in critical condition. The father, Sadykh Rahimov, has been detained by police.

State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Affairs spokesperson Teymur Mardanoghlu said a full investigation is under way into the abuse of the 2- and 3-year-old children. Both remain in hospital, with the three-year-old in serious condition and possibly to be transferred to Baku. The local child and family support center has taken the case under supervision.

According to preliminary information, both parents have been detained and handed over to investigators, and they may face loss of parental rights under the Family Code. Media reports said one of the children had previously suffered repeated abuse, was placed in an orphanage, but was returned to his mother, Sevinj Rahimova, by a June 2025 court ruling.
