Azerbaijan spends about 5 billion manats ($2.9 billion) each year on education, equivalent to roughly 3.8% of GDP, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Idris Isaev said.

Speaking at the opening of the 7th Dialogue on Sustainable Development Goals, held under the theme “Investing in education for Azerbaijan’s sustainable development,” Isaev noted that the bulk of education funding comes from the state budget.

“Globally, around 85% of education investment comes from the state and 15% from the private sector, but in Azerbaijan the ratio is different — about 95% from the state and only 5% from the private sector,” he said.
