A court in Sumgayit sentenced 30-year-old Elbrus Sheidayev from Shamakhi district to 20 years in prison for murdering his father-in-law and attempting to kill his mother-in-law.

According to investigators, in September last year Sheidayev, blaming his mother-in-law for the breakdown of his marriage, rammed his car into the couple before stabbing his father-in-law to death. His mother-in-law, Pusta Huseynova, was injured but survived.

Sheidayev partially admitted guilt. The court ruled that he will serve the first three years in prison, with the remainder of the sentence in a strict-regime colony.
