Teacher injured by student with firearm at Idrak Lyceum in Baku
A teacher at the private Idrak Lyceum in Baku’s Binagadi district was injured by a 10th-grade student with a firearm on February 6, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 09:00 local time when the student, identified as A.Ş., brought a hunting rifle belonging to his father to school and shot teacher Ş.K., who sustained a shoulder injury. Police detained the student at the scene and confiscated the weapon.
The injured teacher, born in 1997, was immediately taken to the Clinical Medical Centre, where she received urgent medical care. She remains hospitalized in the surgery department in a condition described as moderately severe.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a criminal case under relevant provisions of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is ongoing. Police and prosecutorial teams are examining the scene to determine the circumstances of the incident.
School officials initially evacuated students and notified parents. Idrak Lyceum’s director of economic affairs later stated that reports claiming no incident occurred were misleading, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
