Hulusi Akar, commander of the Turkish Ground Forces, has paid a visit to Azerbaijan.
Akar met Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov in Baku, the capital.
Aliyev said military cooperation between the two countries has seen important progress in recent years.
He said exchanges of expertise between the Turkish and Azeri armies, joint military drills and production of weapons were important for further expansion of these ties.
Defense Minister Hasanov said Armenia poses a threat to regional peace by continuing the occupation of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory.
He said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict needs to be resolved in keeping with the UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the occupying troops.
