In order to strengthen democracy in Georgia, the UK will provide the country with £500,000 to protect against Russian interference in parliamentary elections scheduled for 2024, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly said following the talks during a two-day visit to Tbilisi,  reported from Georgian media.

"We need to strengthen Georgia’s resilience to hybrid threats from Russia,” Cleverly noted during a joint briefing with Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.

He noted that the democratic choice of the Georgian people should be protected.

"The UK will not stand aside when Moscow is clearly undermining the democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states,” he stressed.

Earlier, Cleverly visited Moldova, where he announced that the UK allocated 10 million pounds to support economic and managerial reforms, including in the country’s energy sector.
