CSTO chief pays first-ever visit to Armenian-Azeri border

Accompanied by Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and First Deputy Defense Minister David Tonoyan, Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolay Bordyuzha visited on Tuesday military bases and got acquainted with the daily routine of Armenian soldiers who are on combat duty at the southwestern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border.

It was the first such trip by the CSTO chief as part of his working visit to Armenia, Armenia Now reported.

At a news briefing with media representatives, Bordyuzha said that the general situation is satisfying and the goal of his visit is to make a report on the operative situation at the contact line.

According to the Defense Ministry press service, welcoming the CSTO secretary general’s first visit to the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border zone, Armenian Defense Minister Ohanyan noted that similar visits once again show that the CSTO is interested in the situation of its member states. Ohanyan stressed that it is due to such visits that common views are formed in order to determine further steps proceeding from the situation and their sequence.
