Czechia wants to shut EU borders for Russian diplomats

Czechia wants to shut EU borders for Russian diplomats
21.11.2023 13:00
The European Union is discussing a possible restriction on movement within the union for Russian diplomats.

Reported from The Financial Times that the Czech Republic proposed to include these restrictions in the 12th sanctions package.

The publication notes that Czechia is concerned that potential intelligence officers represented by Russian diplomats are moving around EU countries due to the lack of borders between states.

The Czech Republic wants diplomats from Russia to receive visas and residence permits that would allow them to travel only within the host country, and not throughout the rest of the Schengen zone, the publication notes.

In addition, Prague calls for the European Union to accept only biometric passports from Russian diplomats, which, according to Czech authorities, are more difficult to forge.
