Death of Two Young Men Caused by Excavator

A tragic event took place as a result of destruction of a building in Baku on January 25. An empty building at the intersection of Heydar Aliyev Avenue and Agha Neymatulla Street collapsed on a nearby car. As a result, Javid Adalat oglu Bayramli born in 1992 and Asiman Salman oglu Alekperov born in 1988 were killed. Out of the car they were extracted still alive, though wounded, but they died on the way to Hospital Number 5. Asiman Alekperov was 26 years old and Javid Bayramli was 22.

The spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office Eldar Sultanov told ANN.Az that a criminal case was filed in connection with the accident. According to him, the investigative activities are conducted by the Narimanov District Prosecutor's Office under Article 222.3 of the Criminal Code (Violation of safety rules during construction, drilling and other work, which led to death of people or to other aggravating circumstances due to negligence). The necessary expertise has been appointed.

Sahib Mammadov, who was driving through the territory at the time of the accident, and whose car was also damaged, told ANN.Az, that the tragedy was caused by an excavator. "We were driving along the road when the excavator hit the wall and caused it to fall on us. A car brand Shevrolet Niva remained under the rubble. Our car also appeared battered, but we managed to escape. The falling stones hit the back of the car and broke the glass, getting inside. In fact, more people could be killed. Fortunately, the bus moved away a few seconds before," he said.

Well, officials are trying to link the collapse of the building with some large vehicles that were passing through the territory, while the witnesses, who were on the site at the same time, give absolutely different evidence. But the result is still tragic, as two young boys were killed.

Note that all the 3, 4 and 5-storey buildings located near the subway station  N. Narimanov, along Heydar Aliyev Avenue, from Saatlı Bina and down the avenue to the Heydar Aliyev Center are demolished. It is reported that new residential buildings will be erected in their place.

It would be also right to note also that these buildings on Heydar Aliyev Avenue had been overhauled a short time before and their facades were faced with expensive stonework. It is reported that these repairs from the budget were spent millions of manats.

ANN.Az failed to get any comments about the incident from the city executive power.

As spoken by the inhabitants of the destructible buildings, they will be given apartments in new high-rises. But as long as these apartments will be prepared, they will have to rent a home somewhere. For this purpose, a monthly rent at 300-500 manats is issued to them.
