Azerbaijan plans oil product shipments via Baku-Kars railway from 2025

Azerbaijan plans to begin transporting oil products via the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway starting in 2025, a senior rail official said on Thursday.
Emil Mammadov, advisor to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, told the Baku Oil Trade and Transportation Forum that the country’s developed oil infrastructure has made it a key player in regional extraction and export of crude and oil products.
“Currently, the BTK route is mainly used for non-oil cargo, but we are also considering its use for oil product shipments,” Mammadov said.
He noted that the project is 95% ready, and the first transit deliveries could begin by the end of 2025. The BTK corridor has an annual capacity of 5 million tonnes of various cargo.
