Azerbaijan elected to UN-Habitat Executive Board for the first time

Azerbaijan has been elected for the first time to the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the country's Foreign Ministry reported.
The decision was made during the regular session of the UN-Habitat Assembly held today in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
The UN-Habitat Executive Board serves as the main decision-making body between Assembly sessions.
The Board includes representatives from 36 countries. Azerbaijan’s membership in this prestigious UN body will cover the years 2025 to 2029.
The Foreign Ministry noted that cooperation between UN-Habitat and Azerbaijan in the field of sustainable urbanization has been actively developing in recent years. A notable example was the hosting of the UN-Habitat World Habitat Day (WHD23) by Azerbaijan in 2023.
Moreover, from May 17 to 22, 2026, Azerbaijan will host the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), a major global event.
