Serbia hopes to boost imports of Azerbaijani gas

Serbia is considering connecting to the gas transmission systems of Romania and North Macedonia to gain access to the Southern Gas Corridor via Bulgaria, Saša Koković, Assistant Minister for Oil and Gas at Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy, said on Wednesday.
Speaking at an energy forum in Baku, he noted that Belgrade is counting on the European Commission's support for the project.
“We hope to find optimal solutions together with SOCAR regarding supply volumes and transmission capacity. Given Azerbaijan’s potential, we expect to receive more Azerbaijani gas through a new interconnector in the Kalotina area on the Bulgarian border,” Koković said.
He added that Serbia’s annual gas demand is 3 billion cubic meters, with more than 400 million cubic meters expected to be sourced from Azerbaijan.
