Azerbaijan plans to expand the annual throughput capacity of the Baku International Sea Trade Port to 25 million tons by 2026, First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev said at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Economic Forum in Shusha.

According to Aliyev, the infrastructure expansion aims to boost regional trade connectivity and strengthen Azerbaijan’s role as a strategic transit hub between Europe and Asia.

He noted that Azerbaijan plays an active role in developing the Middle Corridor and that the annual cargo capacity of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway reached 5 million tons in 2024.

The deputy minister also said that Azerbaijan is making significant progress in digital trade systems, improving the investment climate, and transitioning to green energy.

“One of our key targets is to generate 30% of electricity from renewable sources by 2026,” Aliyev said.

He added that under the Caspian–Black Sea Green Energy Corridor project, Azerbaijan intends to export green electricity to European markets. This initiative is part of a broader multilateral energy partnership involving Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Aliyev also noted that a green energy zone is being established in the territories liberated from occupation, where investors benefit from tax and customs incentives, as well as a simplified regime valid for 10 years.

“Our cooperation with ECO member states in transport, logistics, industry, and renewables continues along a sustainable development path,” Aliyev said, expressing hope that the outcomes of the forum would be reflected at the 17th ECO Summit on July 4.
