Horse meat detected in cheap sausage sold at Baku market
Recent inspections at Baku markets have revealed horse meat in one of the low-cost sausages on sale, raising concerns among consumers and prompting questions about the composition of similar products.
Eyyub Huseynov, head of the Free Consumers Union, said such items may contain low-quality meat of unknown origin.
He noted that producers are required to clearly indicate the source of raw materials. “Many meat products supplied to markets are made from animals of questionable suitability. The low price reflects this, as such meat effectively costs producers nothing,” Huseynov said.
He added that under Cabinet of Ministers decree No. 94, all food products sold in the country must be properly labeled, including production date, expiry date, manufacturer information and other essential details.
