Emin Agalarov. Heat of the Hometown INTERVIEW

On December 21 another concert by Emin took place in the Baku Buta Palace. Exclusive music program, the best hits, delight of fans... Correspondent of journal Nargiz met with Emin the next day at the hotel Sea Breeze, where he gladly shared his memories and emotions of the day...

- We read about you in the press and before the eyes an idyllic picture emerges: a successful business, music career, a lot of fans... Does your sense of self correspond to this picture?

Yes , my sense of self is a mirror image of what is happening in my life. And my inner world is fully consistent with the image that is seen by others.

 - That is, you are completely satisfied with what you have today?

So far all is going well. All that I undertake, whether it's music or business, turns out well. Recently my first Russian album has been released. I've been doing it for many years. And this week it took the second place in the number of sales in Russia (the first place was won by Beyonce). The only thing that can be designated as "minus" in my life, of which I could complain, is that I spend little time with my children. I'm in Moscow - they are in London or Baku. Sometimes I receive them or fly to see them, but this is still too little.

- Is your self-esteem influenced by the opinions of others, or is it determined by other factors?

I am very critical of self and everything that I do: to a certain extent I am a perfectionist. Probably, it gives me the opportunity to grow. Assessment of yourself is basically an internal process, but I am the strictest judge for myself.

- You always tell about the trust relationship with your father. Consequently, have you not experienced the well-known problem of fathers and children?

Probably both of us were lucky; so my father and I built unusual and very wise relations. I I did not see Father so often: he lived in Moscow, while I lived with my mother and sister in America. We did not spend so much time together, but our relationship has always been based on mutual respect and understanding. From an early age I have gained financial independence. Later, he delegated part of his business to me, which I eventually developed and created projects, including the construction of the Sea Breeze, although this idea to some extent was borrowed from him. Today we are close friends, but I try to never forget who of us is the father and who is the son. If we even have some friction between us, it turns to be very fleeting and insignificant in the context of our general relationship.

- Will you be based on the experience of these relationships, raising your sons?

I think it will happen inevitably. The main thing is to guide them in the right direction. The more so there is only a positive example before their eyes. They are surrounded by good people, so my children are very lucky.

-  Of course, speaking of authoritative people in your life, we should mention Muslim Magomayev. And now we sit in a room full of his photographs. And it takes us to a completely different dimension of time...

(Laughs) We call it "Muslim's room." Magomayev is really very clearly present in our lives to this day. The largest hall in Russia, Crocus City Hall bears his name, Father built a monument in his honor - it is standing in the park near the Azerbaijani Embassy. Every two years, Crocus City hosts a competition of young singers named after Magomaev as well as his birthdays, concerts and memorable evenings - all this is a tribute to his memory.

We are very good friends with his widow, Tamara Ilyinichna, and we always contact, and she is always present at my concerts in Baku... Unfortunately, this time, she was unable to attend.

- You recently presented your first Russian-language album. Can we expect that one day Emin will sing in Azerbaijani?

I would do it with pleasure, if I was sure that I will do it well. As soon as I become confident, I will certainly do that. On the other hand, I'm 34 years old and this takes time, which I do not have enough.

- Do you not like to experiment?

I experiment, but within a reason. I can move away from my line to create a more commercial project. You definitely need to listen to the realities of the market needs. For example, the song Heart Beats came as a surprise for my listeners accustomed to ballads. But it attracted more audience, which at the same time enabled them to meet with my romantic melodies never sounded on the radio.

- How do you overcome a creative slump?

I just do not have enough time for that. Every day I do a lot of things: e.g. yesterday morning I visited a construction site and rehearsals, stayed with my children, then changed clothes and went to the concert, after which I also had a meeting with friends. And it's such a tightening cycle, when you have literally no time to wake up.

If I really cannot manage, I can always use songs composed earlier: for this case I have a large amount of "material for the future." Of all my production, I always choose the brightest for the public.

- What sense can you call your most powerful creative stimulus?

My inner feelings. You certainly write better, when you are sad and lonely, - then you simply transfer your experiences to the text. The best of what I wrote was created during my emotional extremes.

- What do you think about changing the role of a romantic "gentleman of the capital?"

In fact it is not an image, it is myself. I am a bad actor and I never play any video or on stage. On the one hand, it's easy, as I do not need to invent or change masks - this is my big advantage. If I have a bad mood, my concert will sound minor notes.

- How about pulling yourself together and forgetting about the bad, coming on to the scene?

I always do that. Nevertheless, the audience will feel it and the concert for sure will not be as merry as it was yesterday, when I had a very good mood.

- So, the concert was a success?

The impressions are the warmest. I love the format of non-sitting room when you can touch the audience and make certain exchange of energy. I am pleased that there are people who listen to my music and sing my songs and come to my concerts - music gives us a certain unity.
