Türkiye joins the club of countries with nuclear power, albeit with a delay of 60 years, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the ceremony of delivering nuclear fuel to Akkuyu NPP.

Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin take part in the ceremony via video link.

The plant will receive the status of a nuclear power facility after its launch. After commissioning, the nuclear power plant is expected to generate 35 billion kWh of electricity per year, which will cover 10% of the country's total energy needs.
