Erdogan: Türkiye - one of countries contributing most of all to NATO missions

Türkiye is among the countries that contribute the most to NATO missions, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said while addressing 249 young officers - graduates of the Turkish National Defense University on July 7 in Istanbul, reported from Anadolu Agency.

"A very small number of NATO member countries can today declare a contribution similar to what Türkiye has made to the Alliance’s missions over the past 71 years,” he said.

The Turkish leader drew attention to Ankara’s position on NATO expansion, stressing that his country has always supported the expansion of the ranks of the military-political bloc.

At the same time, he noted that Türkiye expects [from Sweden] the fulfillment of commitments on the issue of combating terrorism, taken in the light of the Tripartite Memorandum signed within the NATO summit in Madrid.

"Türkiye cannot support the application to NATO of countries that ignore the actions of terrorists,” Erdogan said.

The president further drew attention to the importance of training professional personnel for the needs of the Armed Forces of Türkiye and friendly countries.

"Türkiye will continue its course of raising the standards of an already strong military education. We are planning new initiatives and achievements in this area,” Erdogan assured.
