Francois Holland French President announced the measures taken by the European Union against Russia, which entered into force on March 6, 2014. He made this statement yesterday at a press conference in Brussels after the summit devoted to the events in Ukraine. Leaders of 28 EU member-states have attended the meeting.
We believe that our actions are well-grounded and any threats against Russia are counter-productive and detrimental. “The EU summit has approved the decisions made by the European Union Foreign Ministers last Monday. They include stoppage of visa talks, suspension of negotiations on the cooperation agreement between EU and Russia and suspension of participation of countries in preparation for the summit of the Eight. All these measures enter into force today,” said Francois Holland.
William Burns, Senior Deputy US Secretary of States, said earlier that the US will toughen the sanctions against Russia, if is expands its interference into Ukraine.
On March 4, 2014 US President Barack Obama said that the US considers putting pressure on Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine, reported ITAR-TACC.
