Mahmud Mammadguliyev: "We’re concerned by the European Union’s weak participation in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”
"Azerbaijan is concerned by the European Union’s weak participation in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said at the event held in Baku dedicated to the Lithuania’s EU chairmanship, APA reported.
M. Mammadguliyev said there are conflicts in the Eastern Partnership countries of Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.
"But the European Union is demonstrating a selective approach to conflicts. We see a different approach to conflicts. The European Union must support the settlement of conflicts and contribute to the resolution of this conflict based on the principle of territorial integrity and within the internationally-recognized borders. We have raised this issue several times. We’re waiting, but there’s no result. Had the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict been investigated thoroughly, and issue been in the interest of the European Union, then we would most likely have not witnessed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine,” he said.
According to the deputy FM, Azerbaijan is not satisfied with the position on conflicts: "Regarding the Crimean problem, immediate sanctions were imposed. And in Karabakh, a number of projects are proposed, and the European Union is trying to contribute to them. The separatist regime in the territory of Azerbaijan is receiving support. The European Union should take some measures against Armenia. The fact that one Eastern Partership country has invaded the territory of another is unacceptable. There needs to be some pressure on Armenia so that this country would liberate the territories it has invaded”.
