EU foreign ministers to discuss long-term strategy for Ukraine at meeting in Brussels

The European Union foreign ministers will hold a broad exchange of views on relations with Ukraine from a strategic perspective at an informal meeting in Brussels on February 3, EU Spokesman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano on Friday said at a briefing in Brussels, reported from Interfax.

He said Ukraine is a topic that is always on the agenda of discussions of foreign ministers, adding, however, that this time the discussion will have a broader, more general nature in strategic terms, because all specific issues are already being discussed within the framework of official meetings of the foreign ministries.

An informal meeting of foreign ministers, traditional for the beginning of each national presidency of the Council of the EU, will take place in Brussels on Saturday, at which the general goals and objectives of the common foreign policy of the European Union in the current six months are usually discussed.

The European External Action Service (EMS) said on Friday that ministers will discuss "the EU's long-term strategy for Ukraine, reflecting various aspects of the conflict, as well as EU assistance in Ukraine's defense and accession path."

In addition to Ukraine, EU-Africa and EU-Turkey relations are identified as the central issues of the meeting.
