It was noted that 20 of the 27 EU countries increased defense spending, six of them increased military spending by more than 10%.
The record holders were Sweden, awaiting admission to NATO, with an increase of 30.1%, Luxembourg with an increase of 27.9%, Lithuania with 27.6%, Spain with 19.3%, Belgium with 14.8% and Greece with 13.3%.
Almost one sixth of all military spending - 58 billion euros - are aimed at acquiring new types of weapons.
The agency doesn’t specify how much of these allocations went to military aid to Ukraine. Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that EU countries supplied Ukraine with weapons worth 27 billion euros, which exceeds 11% of all military spending in 2022.
