EU no longer dependent on Russian oil and gas exports - European Commission

The European Union has managed to overcome its dependence on oil and gas supplies from Russia, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reported from Kommersant.

According to her, 80% of Russian gas exports were fully compensated by supplies from the United States and Norway.

Europe's dependence on Russian oil and gas supplies is now a thing of the past, the European Commission chief says.

She added that together they managed to compensate for this through hard work.

According to Eurostat, from August 2022 to January 2023, gas consumption in Europe fell by 19% compared to the average for the same period in the last five years.
