Facebook fans will finally be able to dislike posts

It's a feature Facebook fans have been desperate for and it seems the dislike button is finally on its way.

The social network announced last year that it was launching a new feature called Reactions, with these new emoji-style characters allowing Facebook users to express emotions on friend's posts.

Whilst the famous thumbs down symbol hasn't been included, users will be able to add a sad or angry face to their messages – with other featured emotions including Like, Love, Haha, Yay and Wow also appearing.

Although there's no official release date, news site Bloomberg is reporting that Reactions is finally heading to the UK and the rest of the world in the "next few weeks."

Reactions was rolled out first in Spain and Ireland last year, with Facebook chief product manager Chris Cox saying the team has been careful not to rush the global launch of the new idea.

"We roll things out very carefully, and that comes from a lot of lessons learned.”

When Reactions does finally launch it will work by long pressing over the bottom of a post.

A panel will then pop up displaying the six emoji options, users will also be able to see how many times each emoji was selected for that specific post.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg hinted recently that he wanted users to be able to express more emotions on the popular site without causing offence.

Speaking at a Q & A session he said: "Everyone feels like they can just push the Like button, and that's an important way to sympathise or empathise with someone,"

"We need to figure out the right way to do it so it ends up being a force for good, not a force for bad."
