Facebook is set to make some MAJOR changes to Instagram

Instagram lovers are in for a major shock.

The Facebook-owned photo-sharing site has just announced a big new update and it's going to affect the way your images are displayed.

While content is currently placed in chronological order, Instagram will soon switch to a new personalised algorithms based on each individual user.

In the blog post, the US technology firm vowed to show users "the moments we believe you care about the most."

This means photographs and video clips will be sorted according to what Instagram thinks you want to see based on "your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post".

Instagram claims that its users miss an average of 70% of content that appears in their feeds which is why they are launching this new feature.

Writing in the official company blog, Instagram notes: "As we begin, we’re focusing on optimising the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.

"If your favourite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in.

"And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.

"We’re going to take time to get this right and listen to your feedback along the way. You’ll see this new experience in the coming months."

Sadly for Instagram the news hasn't gone down well with users with one stating: "Well this is basically the end of Instagram.

"Taking the single worst feature of Facebook and adding it to a simple service that no one complains about basically ruins it."

Instagram users have also flooded Twitter using the social hashtag #RIPInstagram.

"Why does every social media platform suddenly want to destroy itself?" one Twitter user posted.

Another tweeted: "the whole point about instagram is that it isnt facebook: a mess of useless content that I don't want to see."

"So, goodbye Instagram. As soon as the change happens, I'm deleting the app. The countdown is on," one user added.
