"The government has decided that checkpoints on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed after April 15, 2024,” the ministry said in a press release.
Besides, from April 15, sea checkpoints in Haapasaari, the port of Nuijamaa and Santio will be closed to pleasure boats to prevent illegal migration by sea, the ministry added.
The previous decision to close the border with Russia was valid until April 14.
Finland began introducing restrictions on border crossings in November 2023 amid an uncontrolled flow of refugees from third countries. Finnish authorities have repeatedly accused Russia of deliberately sending asylum seekers to the border.
