Former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon is in critical condition, with functions declining in his kidneys and several other organs, according to his hospital, dpa reported.

"His life is certainly in danger," Zeev Rotstein, the director and chief executive of Tel Hashomer Sheba hospital, near Tel Aviv, told reporters in the first briefing since Sharon's condition deteriorated in recent days.
