Four world stars targeted in a £215m overhaul to prevent crisis

The Red Devils have netted just 24 goals in 20 Premier League games this season - 10 less than leaders Arsenal and 15 less than fierce rivals City.

It's left the Old Trafford faithful chanting "attack, attack, attack" and the board looking for answers.

United had initially pledged to just target a left-back when the transfer window reopened in January.

But they're now re-evaluating their options as they scour the market for new blood in search of a top-four finish.

Attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson, 22, is the most likely January addition.

The Brazilian can play on the wing or through the middle and has made a big impact in the Serie A with Lazio.

There he is on £70,000-a-week deal but United are willing to hand him big cash to convince him to sign.

Starsport understands Old Trafford chiefs have given the green light to a contract worth £170,000-a-week.

In addition to the long-term deal, United will have to pay a transfer fee of around £30m - plus £5m in add-ons - to get their man.

There is also firm interest in Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

United looked at the Senegal international in the summer but failed to lure him away from St Mary's.

But with United struggling for pace and power, the 23-year-old is back on Louis van Gaal's radar.

United believe they could get Mane for around £30m but the Saints are adamant they won't sell.

That is despite Mane being hammered by Ronald Koeman for missing a team meeting before Saturday's game with Norwich. He was subsequently dropped.

Mane is currently under contract until 2018 but he has reportedly told Southampton chiefs he does not want to sign a new deal to stay at the club.

While United's interest has been longstanding, the news Mane could leave has also interested Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Anthony Martial has shown signs of why United completed a £58m deal to sign him in January yet Van Gaal is still short of options up front.

Starsport understands that Borussia Dortmund goal-machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been identified as a possible solution to the problems.

The Gabon international, 26, has scored 24 goals in 23 games this season.
