Georgia to get additional 30M euros from EU for army modernization

The European Council, at the request of Georgia, has allocated an additional 30 million euros to help the Georgian army, according to a statement on the website of the European Council, reported from Sputnik-Georgia.

Assistance was requested by Georgia on February 8, 2023.

"With these new assistances, we continue to support the modernization of the capacities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova and the Georgian Defense Forces. In a challenging geopolitical context and in line with their European aspirations, we are helping to strengthen their defense sectors and enhance their ability to participate in EU military missions and operations,” reads the statement.

According to the European Council, Georgia will receive this assistance in 36 months, and the funds will be used to finance non-lethal equipment (engineering, command and control, medical, logistics and cyber defense equipment), supplies and services for units of the Georgian Defense Forces, including technical training.

In total, Georgia will receive 62.75 million euros for defense as part of three aid packages from December 2021.
