Georgian FM: Authorities ready to ensure free elections in 2024

Georgia is ready to ensure a free, fair and transparent electoral process in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said at a meeting with director of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODHIR) Matteo Mecacci, reported from TASS.

The meeting took place within the OSCE Ministerial in the capital of North Macedonia – Skopje. According to information on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the head of the Georgian foreign ministry provided the director of the ODIHR with comprehensive information on Georgia’s implementation of the 12 recommendations of the European Union to obtain the status of an EU candidate country, as well as on the plan for implementing the recommendations contained in the European Commission report on enlargement.

"During the conversation, the importance of the participation of the ODIHR in the successful implementation of a number of reforms was noted. Attention was paid to the participation of the ODIHR in the current electoral processes in Georgia, which is of particular importance in view of the upcoming elections in the country in 2024. The minister emphasized Georgia’s readiness to ensure free, fair and transparent electoral process,” reads the statement.
