German Foreign Ministry summons Russian ambassador over Alexei Navalny's death

The German Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergei Nechaev over the death of Alexei Navalny, reported from Reuters.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs [Annalena Berbock], before the start of the meeting in Brussels, once again commented on the death of Alexei Navalny. And I would like to inform you that the federal government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are summoning the Russian Ambassador today,” a representative of ministry said.

Nechaev himself, before the news of his summons to the embassy, in an interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper, expressed concern about "flirting with the interests of the military industry," which is gaining momentum in Germany, and also warned against "anti-Russian rhetoric."

Germany and other EU countries want to impose additional sanctions against Russia due to Navalny's death. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said the EU countries will discuss the introduction of sanctions against those responsible for Navalny's death. He also noted that the sanctions regime will be named after the politician.
