The head of the Nizami district administration in Azerbaijan’s second largest city of Ganca was injured in a clash with a group of refugees protesting against demolition of their houses on Dec. 10.
Nizami Haciyev was injured along with one of his deputies and five police officers who were trying to clean a road blocked by refugees from the Armenian-occupied Kalbacar District, the Interior Ministry said on its website.
The protesters also damaged two police cars, the ministry said.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 315 of the Criminal Code (putting up violent resistance to law-enforcement officers).
The houses were demolished because they didn’t have construction permits, the ministry said.
