Hamas considers relocation of political office from Qatar to Iraq

The Palestinian militant group Hamas is reportedly considering relocating its political office from Doha, Qatar, to Baghdad, Iraq.

According to the information , which cites Kommersant, the decision to relocate is believed to be driven by increasing pressure from both Doha and Washington regarding peace negotiations. Iraqi authorities approved this move last month.

Hamas has already taken steps towards this transition. In early June, the group opened a political representation office in Baghdad and plans to establish a press center in the coming weeks. However, the exact timing for the complete relocation of their office remains undecided. It's worth noting that Iraq will assume responsibility for the security of Hamas members in Baghdad.

The National suggests that if Hamas leadership relocates to Iraq, it could further complicate peace negotiations, as Qatar's influence over the Palestinian movement may diminish.

It's important to note that Hamas has maintained its political leadership in Qatar since 2012. Despite the potential move, sources indicate that Hamas intends to maintain some form of representation in Doha to manage relations with Qatar.
