Arif Valiyev, head of Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee, has passed away. He was 71.

Valiyev died of an illness he had long been suffering from, privately owned APA news agency said without specifying the illness.

He had served as head of the State Statistics Committee since 1993.

Valiyev will be buried in Baku today.
