Head of Turkish electricity transmission company submits resignation letter

Head of Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAS) Kemal Yildir has submitted a resignation letter, TRT Haber TV channel reported on Apr.6.

The recent disconnection on the main power transmission line that resulted in power outage in several Turkish cities is named as a reason for Yildir’s resignation.

The electricity supply to Turkey’s major cities, such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, was stopped at 10:36 (UTC/GMT +3 hours) on March 31.

The subways in these cities also stopped working as a result of the power outage. The traffic lights also stopped working, which caused traffic jams.

Commenting on the situation, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that a terrorist act could be considered as one of the versions of the power outage in about 30 cities of Turkey.
